One of the things that I love to do is to choose a favorite photo and do it in more than one medium. You have met Lemelia ( then known as Lemesha) before in a previous post. She was done in watercolor on Yupo. I had always meant to do her in colored pencil though. Look how different they are. The colored pencil took about two months to do and is 16×20. Where as the Yupo piece was airy and light, this one is lush and dark. In fact I spent a great deal of my time getting everything dark enough. The photo was a lot lighter. I had to do it light and then darken and darken. When I had done the face and the dark on either side I really didn’t want to do the scarf. She looked like she was coming out of the dark. However it was drawn off and I certainly couldn’t erase it. So to work I went. I believe she does come out of the scarf as well. DARKS DO MATTER.
In other news I hope that you are all busy working on miniatures. The holiday season means miniatures to us and of course we are having our competition ( See info on What’s New). For years the museum had a very popular miniature competition. They are not doing it now and we thought it was just too good to let it go. Many people bought Christmas gifts from those competitions and we hope that will be true with ours. Get to work!
